profile

1952 Born in Gifu prefecture
1971 Learn potteries under Mr. Kozo Kato who is designated a Human National Treasure on potteries of SETOGURO black glaze.
His atelier is in the mountains, in the midst of the great nature.
The slow changing of four seasons awakes him to make potteries. He fires his wood-firing kiln once or twice a year. His master piece is Shino and NEZUMI-Shino. As his teacher Mr. Kato is a leading authority of SETOGURO, Mr. Hori's black pieces are also outstanding.

His Shino work has heart-worming feeling with a harmonious chord of pure white and a bit of orange color.
His Nezumi-shino has powerful impression with a contrast of brown, red, and white colors.
And his setoguro black pieces have delicate looking with partly lustered black glaze.
He makes some KISETO pieces too. His KISETO glaze is opaque and sometimes partly scorched to black.
