RYOJI KOIE(b.1938-)

Born and grew up at Tokoname, a town of ceramic poducts in Aichi prefecture. He mastered potteries at ceramic high school and worked at a manufacturing company.
He eventually was interested in ancient local potteries and found out there were various good clays in Aichi and he gethered tons of clays. He excavated many sorts of clays at the ruins of ancient kilns day after day. With his professional skills he made huge amount of pieces using unknown clays. In this way he learned how to leverage unknown clay effectively. He was good at producing attractive pieces from a clay he has never used before. So when he met brand-new clay on his trip, his hidden talent emerged and he created incredibly inspired pieces.
